ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Standing Committee on National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Thursday received briefing on dengue situation in the country and its prevention and treatment aspects.

The committee meeting which was chaired by MNA Khalid Magsi received detailed presentation on dengue situation from the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Health Services Dr Zafar Mirza.

The committee was informed that all necessary steps were being taken to avoid proliferation of dengue virus in the federal capital.

It was informed that the ministry had started fumigation drive in affected sectors of federal capital to protect citizens.

Dr Zafar Mirza apprised the committee members that an awareness campaign was also running to sensitize the people about preventive measures to avoid carrying dengue virus.

He said being most affected area, sincere efforts were being made to eradicate the spread of dengue in Potohar region.

He said adequate quantity of dengue medicines and testing kits had been provided to the hospitals of federal capital to ensure best treatment of patients.

He said additional staff had been deployed at dengue wards of hospitals while there was continues monitoring on performance of medical staff.

Dr Mirza said he was personally examining the facilities provided at health set ups to ensure provision of proper treatment to incoming patients.

He said 84 percent dengue patients in Punjab were reported from Potohar region while 95 percent cases in Sindh were reported from Karachi.

He said beds for dengue patients had already been increased in Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and Federal Government Polyclinic (FGPC) while additional staff had been deputed to properly look after the admitted patients.

He said a hotline had been working efficiently with having a team of medical experts to reply the queries of citizens round the clock.
