Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar Monday inaugurated a new section of lithotripsy in KMC-run Institute of Kidney Diseases (IKD) where a machine has been installed to break the kidney stone. Addressing the ceremony Wasim said that this is good news for people that now such an important facility is available in a KMC hospital. The machine was purchased in 2007 but got out of order in 2010. He said KMC could not repair it due to lack of financial resources. However, now it has been installed here with the financial support of city's well offs.

He asked the business and trade community to cooperate with KMC in providing such facilities in hospitals. The federal and provincial budgets are made with major contributions from Karachi but still this city gets nothing in return.

Mayor Karachi said KMC is spending much of its resources on healthcare sector to bring improvement in its performance. He praised Dr Daniyal and his team who worked really hard to make this possible.

He said doctors of KMDC not getting salary for four months and he had appealed to the chief minister for providing funds for it on which he agreed and approved the funding. Salaries of doctors will be paid in next few days. The machine worth Rs70.5 million had been out of order in the KMC-run Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for long, however now it has been repaired at a cost of Rs10.2 million.
