Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday ordered the provincial government to constitute special Women Security Force for the protection of women. The SHC bench headed by Justice Salahuddin Panhwar issued the orders while hearing a petition related to shelter houses for destitute women and orphans in the province.

The court also ordered to establish a committee under the chairmanship of former Additional IG Karachi Amir Sheikh to work out the modalities for the force to protect women.

During the hearing of the case, Justice Panhwar observed that Karo Kari menace is still prevalent in the province. He said that over eight thousand applications related to protection of women were received only in district Larkana in the last two years.

Issuing orders for the protection of women, the court directed for posting a women police official equivalent to SSP rank in every division of Sindh. The court also ordered to bring under one roof Social Welfare Department and Women Development Department in the province.

The court also asked the provincial government to take measures for admission of brilliant orphan children in highly reputed private schools for quality education.

The court ordered the provincial government to furnish the progress report about the implementation of court orders in two months.

The court also ordered the government to take practical measures rather than only showing it on the papers. Justice Panhwar remarked that the court would have to speak out if no concrete steps were taken in this connection.
