Every year World Mental Health Day is observed on October 10 to spread awareness regarding various mental health issues among masses. This year, the focus is on suicide prevention.
In this regard the students of the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences (DSBS), National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) Rawalpindi, organized an awareness campaign at NUMS' Campus under the mentorship of Saira Javed. First activity took place on October 03, 2019 with the theme "Don't end life.
End the taboo." Students displayed flyers and other informative material at their stall. Visitors were sensitized about suicide related topics including signs of suicidal tendency amongst others. Vice Chancellor of NUMS Lieutenant General Syed Muhammad Imran Majeed (retd) also visited the event and highly commended the efforts of students in raising awareness about this serious social issue, said a press release issued here on the other day.
The awareness campaign culminated with an event held on Friday, October 11, 2019 to help increase the understanding about the same topic.
This event was also organized at NUMS' premises. Vice Chancellor NUMS Lieutenant General Syed Muhammad Imran Majeed (retd) was the Chief Guest. The event was attended by all Directors and Heads of Departments.
The students of the DSBS department conveyed their messages through interesting skits and songs. Vice Chancellor and Head of the Department Dr Arif Mahmud delivered speeches at this final event. Flyers and other informative material was distributed amongst the attendees
Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences (DSBS) following the broader vision of NUMS; improving quality of healthcare by understanding through research and education is focused on multi-disciplinary approach to health and quality research. For multi-disciplinary approach not only all disciplines of social sciences but also bio-medicine are integrated both in teaching and research.-PR
