  • The film was initially banned by censor board because ‘cannibalism is not part of our culture and tradition.'
  • After clearance, Shamoon thanked fans, censor board chairman Danyal Gilani for supporting his film.

After much debate and controversy, Shamoon Abbasi’s ‘Durj’ will officially release in Pakistan today weeks after it hit cinema screens in other countries.

'Durj' was initially banned because censor board believed cannibalism is ‘not a part of our culture and tradition,' so it should not be showcased. However, Abbasi defended his film and appealed to the chairman Central Board of Film Censors, Danial Gilani, for a second viewing of his film.

“If there is any issue in the film #DURJ it should be pointed out and we will delete what is concerning for the censor board. Banning the film completely seems like a personal vendetta against #DURJ,” the actor and producer shared on social media.

Abbasi received a lot of support from his fans and after much debate, the film is releasing across the country today.
