Traders observed shutter down against massive taxation and other unfair and anti-traders policies of the government. All major business centres including GT Road, Khyber Bazaar, Hashtnagri, Karimpura, Ashraf Road, Qissa Khwani and Saddar Road remained closed and were presenting deserted look. However, some street shops and few in cantonment area remained opened.
The call of the country-wide shutter down is given by the call of traders' association. Today was the first day of the strike while it will also continue tomorrow (Wednesday). All major groups of traders have sought to bring trade and economic activities across the country to a standstill for building pressure on the government to change its policies and abolish the CNIC condition on transaction of Rs50,000 or above on locally produced items. Traders have warned expanding the protest if the conditions, including presenting a CNIC copy for buying and selling goods up to Rs 50,000 is not withdrawn.
