The name of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is still on the exit control list (ECL) to whom Islamabad High Court (IHC) has granted bail for six weeks in Al-Azizia reference on medical grounds.
A senior official of Ministry of Interior confirmed to Business Recorder that the name of ailing former prime mister Sharif is still on no fly list.
On Thursday, Interior Minister Ijaz Shah when asked during a press conference whether Nawaz Sharif's name was on the ECL or not, he replied: "I checked the record, and I have not placed his [Sharif] name on the ECL."
The ministry of interior placed Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz on the ECL in August, 2018 following the recommendation of National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
Additional Attorney General (AAG) Ishtiaq Khan during the hearing of Chaudhry Sugar Mills case in Lahore High Court (LHC) on October 24 confirmed to the court that Sharif is on the ECL.
During the hearing, Justice Najafi inquired from AAG Ishtiaq Khan whether or not the names of petitioners were on the ECL. The AAG replied that their names were not on the ECL but he could get it confirmed. As the bench assembled after a short while, Ishtiaq informed the court that their names were on the ECL.
Senior lawyer Salman Akram Raja told this correspondent that IHC and LHC have not placed any bar on Sharif to leave the country. "If his name is not on the ECL, then he is free to go anywhere aboard," he added.
