ISLAMABAD: Vegetables prices have witnessed decrease while fruit prices still high in the local market as well as weekly bazaars of the federal capital.

According to a survey conducted by APP, the prices of fruits have been increased during past few weeks, while the prices of vegetable has showed decreasing trend particularly in the weekly bazaars of the city.

A number of customers complained that shopkeepers were violating price lists issued by the local price magistrates to the shopkeepers and vendors.

According to rate list issued by Capital Development Authority DMA, apples are being sold at Rs 80 to Rs 180 per kilogram, bananas Rs 40 to Rs 170 per dozen, melons Rs 25 to 50 Rs per kg, strawberries Rs 100 per kg, oranges Rs 80 to Rs 100 per dozen and guava at Rs 40 to Rs 100 per kg.

While the prices of vegetables have decreased as tomatoes are being sold at Rs 34 per kilogram, lady finger Rs 80, potatoes Rs 80 to Rs 116 per five kg, bitter gourd Rs 50, cabbage Rs 36 per kg and brinjal at Rs 20 per kg.

It may be mentioned here that the fruit and vegetable vendors still selling both commodities on high rates in various sectors of the city, giving the reason that there was a shortage of the commodity.

Muhammad Asim, a shopper said most of the vendors are selling fruits and vegetable without displaying rate list and overcharging people on their own.

He said the rate of weekly bazaar and open market are different due to these reason. He appealed concerned authorities to adopt proper plan and take appropriate measures to restrict vendors from overcharging.
