Prices of most of the essential kitchen items witnessed an increasing trend during this week past as compared to previous week, a survey conducted by Business Recorder revealed here on Saturday.
The survey observed tomatoes price has touched record high level of Rs 850 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 190-200 per kg, onions price went up from Rs330 per 5kg to Rs400 per 5kg which in retail market were being sold at Rs 90 per kg against Rs 80 per kg and potatoes' price went up from Rs 220 per 5kg to Rs 250 per 5kg which were being sold at Rs 60 per kg against Rs 50-55 per kg.
This correspondent observed that the government's fixed price wheat flour was substandard and not suitable for eating. Traders said that the government has fixed wheat flour price at Rs 808 per 20kg bag, but this wheat flour is not being purchased by any consumer. They said to minimize the increasing impact of wheat flour prices, the government has also introduced 15kg bag of the commodity but normal quality wheat flour is available at Rs 740 per 15kg bag which two weeks ago was available at Rs 660 per bag.
Traders said that most of the pulses have become more expensive than chicken as Mash pulse is being sold at Rs 220 per kg against Rs 200 per kg, Moong at Rs 180 per kg against Rs 150 per kg and Lobia at Rs 200 per kg against Rs 13-150 per kg. Similarly good quality ghee/cooking oil prices have went up from Rs 1,000 per 5 kg/liter tin to Rs 1,080 per 5 kg/liter tin and spices prices have also crossed Rs 400 per kg which a month ago were being sold at Rs 250-350 per kg.
Garlic price went up from Rs 680 per 5kg to Rs 950 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 280 per kg against Rs 200 per kg and Chinese garlic price went up from Rs 1,100 per 5kg to Rs 1,150 per 5kg which in retail market was available at Rs 320 per kg against Rs 300 per kg. Ginger price went down from Rs 1,700 per 5kg to Rs 1,350 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 340 per kg against Rs 400 per kg.
Egg price went up from Rs 110 per dozen to Rs 113 per dozen which in the retail market was being sold at Rs 125 per kg against Rs 120 per dozen, chicken price went down from Rs 5,900 per 40kg to Rs 5,850 per 40kg which in the retail market was being sold at Rs 165 per kg against Rs 170 per kg while chicken meat was being sold at Rs 270 per kg.
Prices of various qualities of pumpkin went further down from Rs 300-350 per 5kg to Rs 250-300 per 5kg which were being sold in the range of Rs 60-75 per kg against Rs 90-100 per kg, yam price went up from Rs 430 per 5kg to Rs 450 per 5kg which in the retail market was being sold at Rs 110 per kg against Rs 100 per kg. Okra price further reduced from Rs 350 per 5kg to Rs 300 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 75 per kg against Rs 80 per kg and bitter gourd price decreased from Rs 370 per 5kg to Rs 300 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 70-75 per kg against Rs 80-85 per kg and cabbage price went up from Rs 175 per 5kg to Rs 275 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 75 per kg against Rs 55 per kg.
Peas price went further down from Rs 900 per 5kg to Rs 600 per 5kg which in retail market were being sold at Rs 150 per kg against Rs 200-220 per kg, beans price went down from Rs 530 per 5kg to Rs 350 per 5kg which in the retail market were being sold at Rs 80 per kg against Rs 130 per kg, prices of various qualities of tinda went down from Rs 300-450 per 5 kg to Rs 250-400 per 5kg, which in the retail market were being sold in the range of Rs Rs 55-100 per kg against 70-110 per kg, and green chili price went down from Rs 800 per 5kg to Rs 700 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 160 per kg against Rs 210 per kg.
Turnip price went down from Rs 225 per 5kg to Rs 200 per 5kg which in the retail market was being sold at Rs 45-50 per kg against Rs 55-60 per kg.
Capsicum price remained unchanged at Rs 900 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 210-220 per kg; cucumber price went down from Rs 250 per 5kg to Rs 200 per kg which was being sold at Rs 50 per kg against Rs 65-70 per kg; cauliflower price went down from Rs 225 per 5kg to Rs 200 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 50 per kg against Rs 60 per kg;and green zucchini (tori) price went up from Rs 400 per 5kg to Rs 430 per 5kg which in the retail market was being sold at Rs 110 per kg against Rs 100 per kg.
Overall fruit prices witnessed a mixed trend as golden apple was being sold at Rs 110 per kg against Rs 120 per kg, Gaja apple was available at Rs 100 per kg against Rs 135 per kg, white apple in the range of Rs 50-80, Pakistani Kala Kolo apple at Rs 140-145 per kg against Rs 160 per kg and Iranian Kala Kolo apple was available at Rs 160 per kg.
Good quality local banana was being sold at Rs 80 per dozen against Rs 60 per dozen while normal quality banana was being sold in the range of Rs 40-55 per dozen, and guava was available at Rs 80 per kg against Rs 75 per kg.
