Cabinet's sub-committee to decide on removal of Nawaz’s name from ECL today
- Law Minister Farogh Naseem will chair the meeting.
- Nawaz Sharif's flight to London has already been canceled twice as his name still remains on the ECL.
Federal Cabinet’s sub-committee will decide on Tuesday whether former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s name should be removed from the Exit Control List (ECL) or not.
An application was filed by the Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) President Shahbaz Sharif, requesting that his elder brother’s name be removed from the ECL so that he could fly to London for medical care.
The sub-committee will be chaired by Law Minister Farogh Naseem and comprising Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Accountability Shahzad Akbar and the interior secretary, local media reported. The committee will then apprise Prime Minister Imran Khan about its recommendation after which the PM would take the final decision.
The sub-committee has also issued notices to the PML-N president, his representative, Secretary Health Punjab and the medical board to appear before the committee. PML-N Spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb said that Attaullah Tarrar and Dr Adnan will be present before the committee.
Nawaz's flight to London has already been canceled twice as the government remains indecisive on the issue of removing him from the no-fly list. The Sharif family has already made all the arrangements at a London hospital for an advanced treatment of Nawaz's multiple medical complications.
Last week, the Islamabad High Court granted bail to Sharif for eight weeks and suspended his seven-year sentence in the Al-Azizia corruption reference on medical grounds.
