Like other parts of the country, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl's (JUI-F) activists blocked Chungi No 26 for all kinds of traffic - a key entry point to twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other parts of the country - under its Plan-B of the Azadi March.
A large number of supporters of JUI-F gathered at Chungi No 26 under Plan-B to press Prime Minister Imran Khan to resign. The supporters carrying party flags chanted slogans against the government.
The blockage of road at Chungi No 26 by the protesters created problems for motorists; however, Islamabad Traffic Police planned alternate routes for traffic diversion which helped public transport vehicles and other motorists coming and going from Rawalpindi reach their destinations.
Maulana Abdul Gafoor Haideri while addressing the participants criticized the government policies especially its foreign and economic policies. He said that due to weak foreign policy, Pakistan failed to present a resolution over Kashmir in Human Right Council.
He also lashed out at the government on its failure to control inflation in the country. He said that inflation in the country has increased to an extent that the people are committing suicides. The government has handed over national economy to International Monitory Fund (IMF) and mortgaged the nation, he claimed.
The JUI-F leader said that the party has launched Azadi March to get rid of these anti-public policies and 'illegitimate' government. "The JUI-F's anti-government movement will continue till the resignation of Prime Minister Imran Khan," he said, adding that removal of such a leadership is a national duty.
He said that his party workers have blocked roads across the country and the lockdown will further increase with each passing day. He urged party workers to stand firm and gather at the same point on daily basis.
Heavy contingent of police were deployed at the protest venue to avert any untoward situation. However, the protesters dispersed peacefully.
Meanwhile, Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration removed shipping containers placed on different roads and opened roads for traffic. The ICT administration also opened all entry points of Red Zone for traffic.
Earlier, the ICT administration had arranged hundreds of containers to block entry and exit points of Red Zone as well as the city. The additional police force requisitioned from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Azad Jammu & Kashmir has also started returning to their home stations.
