SIALKOT: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that a strategy would be evolved in consultation with chambers of commerce and industry to cope with the electricity crisis.
Addressing members of the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry and representatives of other trade bodies Tuesday, he said that despite electricity loadshedding, the business community was playing a vital role in strengthening the national economy and providing employment opportunities to thousands of people in Punjab.
The chief minister said major chambers of commerce and industry would be taking on board for a strategy to initiate power projects in various parts of Punjab. He said more than Rs 500 million would be allocated in the upcoming budget for the Sialkot City package.
He said sports complexes would established in Gujrat, Gujranwala and Sialkot districts for the promotion games especially cricket and hockey and work on the project would be undertaken soon. Special steps will also be taken for making the Cardiac Centre more effective in Sialkot to facilitate patients, he added.
The chief minister said the project of conversation of the Aminabad road into a dual carriageway had already been approved and work on it would start during the next fiscal year. He said that journalist colonies would be established in cities.
He said that another labour colony would be developed in Sialkot to mitigate accommodation problems of industrial workers. MNA Khawaja Muhammad Asif also spoke on the occasion.
In his address of welcome, Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) President Naeem Anwar Qureshi said that work on a proposed Technology University should be expedited to enable the business community of Sialkot to produce their products according to international standard.
Naeem called for setting up Sialkot Development Authority for resolving civic problems.
