Model Customs Collectorate (MCC), Appraisement West has foiled an attempt to clear Indian origin goods from Karachi port through miss-declaration. According to details, the department has received credible information that some unscrupulous importers were involved in clearing certain items of Indian origin in the garb of China origin.

In order to verify the veracity of the information, documents of two consignments imported from Jebel Ali were examined for which importer had declared the goods as China origin in goods declaration filed for its clearance and claimed exemption of customs duty and additional sales tax.

Furthermore, the department has conducted physical examination of the said consignments at Karachi International Containers Terminal (KICT). The examination report and labelled pasted on the goods revealed that the consignments were manufactured by M/s Lexus Paints & Coatings, Plot No. G-2, Industrial Area, Phase-7 Mohali (Punjab), India (Made in India) and classifiable under PCT 3206.4990 and whereas goods declarations filed for the clearance of the same through custom agent, declared to contain origin of goods as China and PCT Code 2821.1010.

The consignment being liable to confiscation has therefore been seized in terms of section 168 of the Customs Act, 1969, fulfilling all legal formalities. It is therefore established that Islamabad based importer and their clearing agent deliberately and wilfully made attempt to import the consignment of Indian origin which is otherwise not importable in terms of Import Policy Order, 2016. Consequently, the case has been registered. Further investigation is in progress.
