ECP members: Parliamentary panel's meeting ends inconclusively

A meeting of the parliamentary committee to wave off the Election Commission of Pakistan crisis ended inconclusive on Monday as out of total two members to be appointed one each from Sindh and Balochistan, the government is not ready to accept one member of the opposition's choice.

According to sources, the opposition wants the government to appoint the member of its choice from Sindh. However, consensus was not developed in this regard.

The 12-member parliamentary committee on the appointment of ECP members met with Human Rights Minister Dr Shireen Mazari in the chair, but failed to reach any consensus.

The meeting will be held again today (Tuesday), in which the committee will consider nominations for appointment of members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) from Sindh and Balochistan forwarded by the government and the opposition.

Meanwhile, Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser held a meeting with Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani and discussed matters pertaining to the appointment of two members of ECP.

They expressed satisfaction over the progress made on the matter.

Both the chairman Senate and the speaker expressed the commitment to fully play their constitutional role on the appointment of the ECP members.
