Actress/activist Mehwish Hayat has come out in support of former Pakistan President (retd) General Pervez Musharraf, following his recent statement from his hospital bed.
Musharraf, in a video statement from his hospital bed, spoke about his health saying that the treason case against him is absolutely baseless as 'he hasn’t been heard and is being victimized'. Taking to her and sharing the video, Mehwish said that keeping the politics aside, Musharraf deserves the opportunity to be heard.
“Let’s put politics aside for one moment. This man was our president and guided us through some every difficult times. Like him or loathe him, he deserves the opportunity to be heard. At least we can grant him that dignity. After all does the law not say Innocent till proven guilty?” she wrote.

Mehwish also replied to a user who had posted a photo of former president Asif Ali Zardari, asking the actress as to why she is showing empathy for only one president who is ill. “Nobody is above the law, all that I am saying is give him a chance to be heard at least. Guilty or otherwise is the decision of the courts,” she said in response to the tweet.
