Special Core Commanders’ Conference underway on Musharraf’s verdict

(Karachi) A special Conference of the Core Commanders is underway in GHQ under the chair of Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa to discuss the situation after the special court handed down death sentence to former president Pervez Musharraf in high treason case, media reported on Tuesday.
The meeting is being held to discuss the overall security situation in the country and the measures to counter the circumstances arising as a result of the verdict.
Earlier today, a special court in a first in Pakistan's history, handed down death sentence to former president general (retd) Pervez Musharraf in the high treason case.
A three-member bench of the special court, headed by Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth announced its reserved verdict. The verdict which was split 2-1 said that it found the former military ruler guilty of high treason according to Article 6 of the Constitution of Pakistan for imposing a state of emergency on November 03, 2007.
The special court's judgment has been criticized by the leaders of All Pakistan Muslim League (APML). The verdict is one of the first in country's history where a former army chief has been awarded a death penalty.
