The convention organized by Punjab Bar Council was held on a road outside the bar's building as a large number of lawyers turned up to express solidarity with their arrested colleagues in the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) attack case.[/caption]
A declaration of the convention resolved that the legal fraternity was united as it had always been instrumental against dictatorship and in protection of the Constitution and supremacy of law in the country.
It also condemned the government's failure to take in time action to control situation outside the PIC and demanded an inquiry into the incident by a judge of the Supreme Court.
It demanded immediate withdrawal of FIRs, release of all arrested lawyers and action against police officials involved in torturing them during custody.
It said there was no personal enmity between lawyers and doctors as the bar wanted to resolve the dispute amicably. The bar believed that the perpetrators of the attack should be brought to book, the declaration added.
Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) Vice Chairman Amjad Ali Shah, PbBC Vice Chairman Shahnawaz Ismail, Ali Ahmad Kurd and Munir Bhatti were among those who addressed the convention.
