Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan Wednesday while vowing to provide all out assistance of the government to protect the media has urged the media to help the government in highlighting the achievements of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.

Addressing an Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) award distribution ceremony, here she said that 2020 would be year of providing relief to the general public after economic revival of the country. She said that 2020 would be year of fulfilment of promises made in the manifesto of PTI and expressed the hope that the media would play due role in highlighting the achievements made by the government.

She said that on December 25, Christian community celebrates Christmas whereas it was also birthday of founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. She said that Quaid-e-Azam with his commitment and dedication changed the map of the sub-continent and dream of Pakistan became a reality.

She said that Prime Minister Imran Khan following the vision of Quaid-e-Azam, struggled 23 years for transforming Pakistan. She said Imran Khan not only challenged the status quo but succeeded in defeating it in 2018 elections and foundation of new Pakistan has been laid with introduction of far-reaching reforms in the institutions.

She said that empowerment of the national institutions was policy of the Quaid-e-Azam and the present government was striving to empower the institutions but in the past the rulers adopted policies to benefit themselves and their cronies.

Awan said minorities not only played an important role at the time of creation of Pakistan, but also took active part in nation-building process.

She said that restructuring process in Associated Press of Pakistan has been initiated to make it a modern and self-reliant institution. She expressed the hope that after restructuring, APP would become a leading news agency in the region.

She said that the government and the workers of the APP worked collectively for the improvement of the premier news agency. Appreciating the launch of APP awards, she said that this would encourage its employees to work hard and healthy competition among the workers which would ultimately benefit the organization. She also appreciated the efforts of MD APP Tariq Mehmood Khan for initiating digitalization process.

She said that as per the commitment of the Prime Minister Imran Khan with the journalist organizations as the government wanted to protect rights of the journalists the PTI government has announced the 8th Wage Board Award after 19 years.

Speaking on the occasion, Senator Faisal Javed said due to earnest efforts of the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan 2020 will be proved as the year of progress and development.

He said country's exports are increasing day by day and current deficit is shrinking which are positive indicators for economy. He said our economic team's reforms agenda is showing positive results now though previous governments left no stone unturned in pushing the country into economic crisis.

Senator Faisal Javed said minorities in Pakistan are enjoying their religious freedom while in India they are being deprived from their basic human rights. He said Indian atrocities in the Occupied Kashmir have exposed its real face and the world is reviewing the whole situation.
