Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations) Rai Babar Saeed has said that over 6,000 cops will be deployed in the provincial capital to maintain law and order besides taking strict action against charged youngsters for doing aerial firing, one-wheeling and harassing families during the New Year night celebrations.
"Over 6,000 cops including six SPs, 35 DSPs, 86 SHOs and 352 upper-subordinates will be deployed on the New Year night celebration. The miscreants who found involved in one-wheeling, aerial firing and harassing families will be dealt with iron hand. No one will be allowed to take law into his/her hands," warned the DIG while talking to the media on Monday.
For the safety of planned celebrations (prayers) at churches in connection with the New Year, the senior police officer said they have divided the security plan into three categories by keeping in view prevailing security threats. The divisional SPs will personally monitor all the security arrangements, he added.
"Police are also obtaining surety bonds from the record holder one-wheelers to ensure decent atmosphere during the celebrations," the DIG said and warned that an indiscriminate action will also be taken against motorbikes and cars without silencers.
According to Saeed, the police are conducting search and combing operations on daily basis due to prevailing security threats. He said the Dolphin Squad and Police Response Unit (PRU) teams would ensure patrolling in the city, adding that an additional contingent of police will be on standby to deal with any untoward incident.
