National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has directed the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Punjab President Rana Sanaullah Khan to appear before its investigation team on January 28 in the assets beyond means case.

The PML-N leader has been asked to fill out the requisite form for assessment of the assets owned by him in the same case, and bring it along with him on January 28. The PML-N MNA has also been directed to indicate as to whether or not his assets increased or decreased on annual basis. He was also asked to provide his record with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) to the NAB investigation team, sources said.

Earlier, talking to the media, Rana Sanaullah asked the government to bring forth the "video" as evidence in the narcotics case against him, otherwise the indictment would not be accepted.

"Will not allow the drug case against him to proceed until the alleged video against him is presented," he said. "The government is being exposed because it is not allowing the real facts to come in front of the public."

Sanaullah called for open trial of the case. "Until and unless an open trial is held, we will not let the case proceed at all," he said. He also questioned where the alleged video was.

"If the video is present, then it should be presented in court. This case will not move forward until the video is presented in court."

Without naming State Minister for Narcotics Shehryar Afridi, Rana Sanaullah said, "If the alleged video had also been shown to Prime Minister Imran Khan, why was it not being brought in front of the public? We will not accept the charge sheet until the video is presented in court," he asserted. Responding to a question about the Pakistan Army (Amendment Act), Rana said: "It was important to follow the parliamentary procedure and that there was no need to hurry when it came to the bill."

He said, "Nawaz Sharif's message for politicians and the parliament carries considerable prestige." The PML-N leader also denounced the law enforcement agencies for denying court entry to the media personnel, saying they have the right to witness the trial proceedings.

On July 1, 2019, the former Punjab law minister was arrested by the ANF Lahore team while he was traveling from Faisalabad to Lahore near the Ravi Toll Plaza on motorway. The ANF claimed to have seized 15kg heroin from his vehicle. A special team of the force had also arrested five others, including the driver and security guards of Rana Sanaullah.
