Pakistan’s only wet-process cement plant on the brink of shutdown

Zeal Pak Cement Factory Ltd, the country's sole wet-process plant, is running on continuous loss as the company is unable to compete with more modern production facilities.
The company was established in 1956-57 in Sindh, which operates on wet-process technology that has been declared out dated throughout the world, informed Masood ul Hassan, group general manager of the company, in a filing to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX).
“In wet process technology, the fuel is consumed more than double and the cost of manufacturing of cement doubled as compare to compared to dry process technology,” the statement said. Masood added that the management is running the factory at a continuous loss and only for its survival to provide employment. The company is facing a huge financial crisis.
The company informed the stock exchange that under these circumstances the survival of the company has become very difficult, adding that the management is considering adopting voluntary delisting of the company.
