Maker of Malala biopic ‘Gul Makai’ receives death threats

Bollywood’s upcoming directorial ‘Gul Makai’ tells the story of Pakistani education activist and Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai. Director Amjad Khan in a recent interview says he has been getting many death threats but he never felt like dropping the project.
Amjad said that despite many hurdles, he never felt like backing out from the project.
“I never thought of backing out. I was worried about my artists’ security on set during the shooting in Kashmir. On the first day, I thought of terrorist alignments with the locals but I was wrong. Kashmiri people are more patriotic than us. I still receive threat mails from unknown IDs,” said Amjad while talking to Express Tribune.
The UN had earlier organised the film screening in London about a year ago. Amjad said it was overwhelming to see the biggies giving a standing ovation.
“Even though Malala’s father was watching the film for the second time, he couldn’t console himself. He said you made our nightmares come alive again”. He also recalled that how Malala tightened her jaws and her fists, and continuously tapped one of her feet during the film screening.
The film will officially hit theatres on January 31.
