The National Assembly Standing Committee on Housing and Works on Wednesday asked Ministries of law and housing and works to find a way out for resolving issues related to residents of Jamshed Quarters in Karachi.

MNA Muhammad Najeeb Haroon while chairing the meeting of the Standing Committee on Housing and Works called for resolving the matter related to Jamshed Quarters Quarters in Karachi.

Secretary Ministry of Housing and Works Dr Imran Zeb Khan told the committee that Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed his ministry to devise a special project regarding Jamshed Quarters in order to accommodate its residents in the same place and also set up a housing scheme in the remaining area.

Haroon said that Jamshed Quarters are 70 years old construction and they have been allotted to different people at different times. "People have been living there for the last many years; therefore, five to 10 percent should be awarded to the inhabitants," he said.

The official of Ministry of Housing informed the meeting the construction of five million houses under the Naya Pakistan Housing programme is the mandate of Naya Pakistan Housing and Development Authority (NPHDA). However, various other organizations such as Pakistan Housing Authority (PHAF) and Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA) are also playing their roles in order to achieve the said objective, he said. He said that the role of FGEHA is to launch housing scheme for federal government employees and other specified groups under the flagship of NPHDA.

He said that the FGEHA is going to launch different housing schemes including Housing scheme under NPHP through joint ventures on private land, projects under NPHP on government land and construction of housing units through JV with provincial governments.

About Green Enclave-I at Bhara Kahu Islamabad, he said that the Federal Government Employee Housing Authority is vigorously pursuing early development of the scheme. The issues related to payment have been resolved with the intervention of National Accountability Bureau (NAB), he said, adding that housing foundation withdrew pay order amounting to Rs686 million from NAB and released Rs120 million to M/s Green Tree as balance amount of raw land.
