The emission of hazardous gases from cargo transportation along the Karakoram Highway (KKH) is feared to increase the air pollution, causing health complications to the dwellers of Gilgit-Baltistan.

These concerns were raised by representatives of Karakoram National Movement (KNM) at a press conference here at Karachi Press Club (KPC) on Monday.

KNM Sindh President Rehmat Mir, besides Taruf Abbas Advocate, Sher Banu, Engineer Javed, Gull Sher Khan and others spoke on this occasion.

They requested the government to ensure proper mechanism to protect the environment. Emission of Co2 from the cargo vehicles plying along the KKH may hit the glaciers which have already been melting with fast pace, due to the global warming.

They were of the view that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would benefit the entire region, however, the authorities should give special priority to GB which is gateway to the multi-billion dollar project.

Rejecting the proposed ordinance-2020, related to governance in Gilgit-Baltistan, they urged the PTI-led federal government to come up with a permanent solution for the GB dwellers who have been struggling for their constitutional rights for the last seven decades.
