SC orders cantonment officials to demolish illegal structures in Karachi's Delhi, Punjab colonies

• During the hearing today, the SC came down hard on the cantonment officials and asked them who gave the orders for constructing tall buildings in colonies.

The Supreme Court (SC) ordered on Friday the officials to demolish all illegally-constructed buildings in Punjab Colony and Delhi Colony areas of the metropolis.

A three-member bench headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Gulzar Ahmed and comprising Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah was hearing a case pertaining to illegal constructions and encroachments in Karachi.

During the hearing today, the SC came down hard on the cantonment officials and asked them who gave the orders for constructing tall buildings in colonies, local media reported. The authorities replied that they have taken action against illegally-constructed buildings on several occasions.

The bench ordered the cantonment officials to demolish illegally-constructed buildings in Punjab Colony, Delhi Colony, PNT Colony and Gizri Road areas of the metropolis.
