A Senate panel on Monday while taking serious notice of the irregularities in the National Assembly Employees Cooperative Housing Society (NAECHS) has called for action against those responsible and has sought a report within two days.

The sub-committee of the Senate Functional Committee on Government Assurances met in the chair of its convener Senator Fida Mohammad and discussed in detail the affairs in the NAECHS.

Convener of the sub-committee called for action against all those who have been usurping the rights of allottees of the NAECHS.

He directed the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs Joint Secretary, Ashfaq Ghumman, who had conducted an inquiry on the matter to submit a report to the committee, within two days.

The committee also took serious notice of the absence of the deputy commissioner, Islamabad, who despite a notice being sent to the Commissioner's Office, Islamabad, failed to show up.

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Senator Azam Khan Swati stressed that strict directives should be issued from the forum that original allottees be facilitated on priority.

He said that the main concern and focus of the committee should be to ensure that the NAECHS come to completion.

The committee was informed that the NAECHS had handed over its 1,030 kanals land and Rs433,000,000 of development charges (Rs250,000 per plot against 1,730 plots) to the FECHS.

The NAECHS had handed over the land and accordingly paid development cost to FECHS.

The FECHS has issued 1,097 allotment letters to the members of the NAECHS. The NAECHS invited its members to clear the dues against their membership - Rs850,000 per plot.

It was informed that 1,097 members had cleared their dues and allotment letters were issued to them accordingly. Since the date of agreement, the FECHS had provided the possession of 363 plots to the NAECHS; the remaining 743 allotees are still waiting.

Joint Secretary Ghumman was of the view that the case was extremely convoluted and a complete investigation was needed to get to the root of the matter.

The panel was further informed that an internal meeting was scheduled to be held soon after which a decision would be taken whether or not that case was to be handed over to the NAB or the FIA.

The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Azam Khan Swati, Senator Abida Muhammad Azeem and senior officials from the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, the CDA and Islamabad District Administration, Circle Registrar Cooperative Housing Societies, Islamabad, and National Assembly Employees Cooperative Housing Society.
