Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan praised Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan highly for supporting Pakistan's stance on the issue of Kashmir.

She, while talking to media outside the Parliament on Friday, said, "We are thankful to Tayyip Erdogan for highlighting the issue of Kashmir and showing solidarity with the Kashmiri people in his address to the joint-sitting of the Parliament."

Awan said that Pakistan-Turkey relations were deep-rooted in common faith and culture from many years.

She said that the Turkish president had helped Prime Minister Imran Khan in highlighting the longstanding Kashmir issue at international forums.

The special assistant said that Turkey had always supported Pakistan in difficult times and it had strengthened Pakistan's narrative at the international forum including at the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the United Nations.

Awan said that playing role of a brother, Turkey always helped in protecting Pakistan's interests.

She said now these decades-old bilateral brotherly relations had been transformed into a strategic partnership.

Awan said that now the focus was on further expanding economic and trade partnership for the benefit of the generations to come.

She said that Turkey would also help Pakistan in transfer of technology.

The special assistant said that the arrival of Turkish First Lady Amina Erdogan along with President Erdogan would encourage Pakistani women to come forward and play their role in nation-building process.
