Article 6 of Constitution of Pakistan appears to have been turned into a joke by our politicians. Prime Minister Imran Khan has underscored the need for trying JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman under this constitutional provision. In a tit-for-tat response to the government, therefore, JUI-F has challenged Khan to proceed with his "whimsical daydream" to apply Article 6 on party chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman.
According to media reports, "speaking on a point of order in National Assembly, Maulana Asadur Rahman, the son of Maulana Fazlur Rahman, dared the prime minister and his ministers to remain true to their statements of applying Article 6 on the JUI-F chief, without taking any U-turn, as what he said the "ruling elite" has a history of backtracking from their positions."
Staging anti-government sit-ins or taking out protest rallies with a view to dislodging an elected government does not amount to low or high treason. Period. It's about time the prime minister stopped feigning ignorance about Article 6.
