After the resignation of Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Anwar Mansoor Khan, the federal government on Friday requested the apex court for a three-week adjournment in the Justice Qazi Faez Isa case. The Additional Attorney General, Chaudhry Aamir Rehman, moved an application in the Supreme Court, requesting the full bench to adjourn the case for three weeks The request for a three-week adjournment from the government is believed to be aimed at buying time, so that the recently-appointed AGP can prepare the case as it is the AGP who represents the federal government in the Justice Faez Isa case. The former AGP, Anwar Mansoor Khan, in a letter addressed to President Dr Arif Alvi, had said that he was a lifetime member of the Karachi, Sindh and Supreme Court bar associations and wanted to "reaffirm faith in the highest principles of integrity and professional excellence that the PBC has always stood for".

"Accordingly, I hereby resign from the position of the Attorney General for Pakistan and request you to accept it with immediate effect," he said.

"In the last year-and-a-half, I worked to the best of my ability to serve this solemn office with the honesty of purpose, and commitment to upholding the Constitution," he added in his resignation letter that he submitted to the President.

However, sources privy to the development confirmed to Business Recorder that Khan was forced to quit as top law officer of the country, fearing any backlash from the apex court for passing "contemptuous" remarks against its judges.

In May 2019, a presidential reference was filed against Justice Qazi Faez Isa, accusing him of concealing his properties in the United Kingdom, allegedly held in the name of his wife and children.
