The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) Friday proposed to the government a decrease of Rs7.23 per litre in the price of high speed diesel (HSD) and Rs5.79 per litre cut in price of petrol for March, the sources claimed.
The OGRA spokesperson refused to share the recommended prices of petroleum products, and stated that the government did not want to make public the information for some unspecified reason. Sources said that in a summary moved to the Petroleum Division, the Ogra has proposed decrease in the price of petrol, HSD, the main products where government collects general sale tax and petroleum levy.
The Ogra has sent the summary to the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division) on Friday and that would be then forwarded to the Finance Ministry for approval. As per the summary, the Ogra has recommended that prices of HSD may be reduced by Rs7.23 per litre and petrol by Rs5.79 per litre, the sources maintained.
If the government approves the Ogra's recommendation, petrol price will go down from the existing Rs116.6 per litre to Rs110.81 per liter, and HSD price will reduce to Rs120.03 per litre from the current Rs127.26 per litre. The Ogra has calculated price on the basis of Petroleum Levy of Rs18 per litre on the HSD, Rs15 per litre on petrol, Rs6 on kerosene oil, and Rs3 on LDO.
