The Accountability Court hearing multi-billion-rupee fake bank accounts case on Tuesday sought sources of income of former president Asif Ali Zardari's sister Faryal Talpur with respect to her plea to unfreeze her bank accounts.
The Accountability Court judge, Azam Khan, while hearing the case regarding the unfreezing of Talpur accounts, issued directives to submit her sources of income before the court and adjourned hearing till today. Talpur had filed an application to unfreeze her accounts.
During the hearing, Talpur came to the rostrum and said that the NAB had frozen her and her children's accounts, which was great injustice. My children have a lot of expenses and they are facing difficulties running the day-to-day affairs, she said. Talpur said that the court instead of deciding the matter was giving dates.
Talpur's counsel Farooq H Naek read out the NAB's letter in the court. He also produced Talpur's gas, electricity, water, school fee and other bills before the court. The NAB has also frozen accounts of Talpur's daughters, Aysha Talpur and Fatima Talpur, Naek said. He said that the NAB had frozen accounts on the name of Zardari group of companies in the fake accounts scam.
The NAB did not produce any evidence regarding linking personal accounts with fake accounts, Naek said, adding that the allegation was against Zardari, while the NAB had also frozen personal accounts. What are the sources of income of the applicant, the judge asked? Naek told the court that his client was running agri-business. At this, the court sought sources of income of Talpur and adjourned hearing of the case till today.
