Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah while presiding over a special cabinet meeting a couple of days ago decided to keep the educational institutions closed till May 30. This will be treated as summer vacations. This is the right approach to dealing with the coronavirus challenge. According to media reports, the meeting was attended by all the provincial ministers, advisors, chief secretary Mumtaz Shah, Chairman P&D, M Waseem, secretaries of school education, colleges and university and boards and general administration.
My question is: why the mayors of cities were not invited to this meeting? After all, city governments have a meaningful role to play in efforts aimed at containing the coronavirus outbreak. China owes its success in lowering the rate of daily infections to the fact that it ensured the smooth operation and greater cooperation of local governments amid the coronavirus breakout.
