NA speaker meets PM: Government-Opp's joint parliamentary body on COVID-19 soon

A joint parliamentary committee of the government and opposition will be formed soon to effectively tackle and stop the spread of coronavirus (Covid-19). This was agreed during a meeting between Prime Minister Imran Khan and National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, who called on him at PM House on Thursday.
A statement issued here stated that Prime Minister Imran Khan said that to check the spread of coronavirus in the country, and protect the people and economy from its effects, the government was in contact with international institutions, and it would utilise all resources to provide relief to the masses.
He also exchanged views with the NA speaker about the coronavirus situation in the country, and the measures being taken at government level to curb the deadly virus.
The prime minister said that China's cooperation with Pakistan to check the coronavirus was laudable, adding instead of getting into fear; the people should focus on taking precautionary measures against the coronavirus.
Meanwhile, Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani advised the senators to donate their one- month salary to make the government financially strong to fight against coronavirus and overcome the issue.
He said that it was their social and moral obligation to step forward and contribute towards a cause, said a statement issued here on Thursday. "We need to show unity and rise above party politics for a cause because humanity is facing a threat," he added.
He further said that people needed to adopt precautionary measures and improve hygienic standards besides maintaining social distance. He said that Senate had always stood up for national cause and contributed generously during crisis and natural calamities. The contribution would be spent on providing medical relief to the people infected by coronavirus.
