ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry here on Sunday said that it was the duty of Judges to decide cases on merit in accordance with law and Constitution without fear or favour while the lawyers are obliged to provide proper assistance to them.

He said this while talking to a 25-member delegation of Multan High Court and District Bar Association headed by Muhammad Ashraf Khan, President High Court Bar and Sajid Azdee Sunpal, Vice President District Bar and comprising other office bearers.

Justice Ifthikar Muhammad Chaudhry said that Bench and Bar are the important part of judiciary, they should strive hard for common cause of administration of justice in society.

The Chief Justice appreciated the unprecedented struggle of the legal fraternity for upholding the rule of law, supremacy of the Constitution and independence of judiciary in the country and expected they would continue to play their role in the quick dispensation of justice in the same spirit.

The delegation admired the role of CJP in the enforcement of fundamental rights of the citizens and played proactive role in ensuring accountability and good governance in the state.

They also felicitated the CJ on his nomination for the International Jurists Award " 2012 by the International Jurists Council for his unique and tremendous contribution in the field of Administration of Justice.

They also discussed different issues and problems faced by them in their profession including the issue of recording of evidence which is now totally left to the Local Commissioners, upon which Chief Justice informed them that the National Judicial Policy Making Committee had recently decided that Local Commissioners would only record evidence in the premises of the court and that too, where there is much workload upon the Judicial officers, otherwise Judicial officers themselves have to record the evidence.

The delegation assured the Chief Justice of their full support and cooperation and expressed the hope that the administration of justice under his bold and benign leadership and motivation will further improve and provide relief to the litigant public.

They also invited the Chief Justice to visit Multan High Court and District Bars to inaugurate Judicial Complex. The Chief Justice of Pakistan expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the delegation.
