Like other parts of the country residents of twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi stayed indoors for the fifth consecutive day following government ordered a lockdown to contain the rising number of coronavirus cases in the country.
Streets were deserted, public transport, offices, shops, markets, parks, and other public spots remained closed in both the cities.
Majority of the shops in the major markets in both the cities including Aabpara, Karachi Company, Peshawar Mor, F-6 and F-7, I-8, G-10 Markaz, Commercial Market, Raja Bazaar, Pindora as well as several other smaller markets remain closed.
Shops including medical stores/pharmacies, bakeries, meat, milk and grocery stores remained open.
The administrations of both the cities have continued complete sealing of Bhara Kahu, Chak Shahzad and Ramsha Colony in Islamabad; some parts of Sadiqabad, a part of Dhoke Kashmirian and B-Block of Satellite Town in Rawalpindi; and Mohrah Akkrah near Sohawa, after detection of coronavirus cases.
The personnel of police, Rangers and army were seen patrolling the roads of the twin cities on Friday too.
Islamabad Deputy Commissioner (DC) Hamza Shafqaat advised people to pray at home in order to contain the spread of coronavirus. "I request all those in Islamabad to pray at home. Mosques are requested to limit prayers to their staff only," he said on Twitter.
According to a notification issued by Auqaf Department, in the wake of spread of coronavirus, following instruction of the government, health experts and guidance of religious scholars only three to five people including mosque staff can pray Friday prayers at the mosques, and other people have been asked to pray in their homes.
A limited number of people offered their Friday prayers at Faisal Mosque.
The imam of the mosque gave a brief sermon and spoke about the safety precautions related to coronavirus.
In Rawalpindi, due to coronavirus outbreak only administrative staff of the mosques offered their Friday prayers behind the imams. Majority of residents after government advice offered their Friday prayers at their homes.
The administration has continued its disinfection drive in various areas to control the spread of the virus.
They have also accelerated their ongoing public awareness campaign on coronavirus for the larger benefit of the residents.
