There's no shortage of food items: Firdous
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has said that some people want to save their sinking boat by doing politics on coronavirus outbreak in the country. The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) expressed these views during a video conference with media on Sunday.
She said that Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan had reiterated his commitment to provide ration at the doorstep of the poor. Awan said that the biggest challenge was supply of food, and the lockdown had affected the working class due to closure of factories, restaurants and construction industry.
She said that the prime minister would announce a programme to supply food to the poor through young volunteers. She said that the whole world was in crisis due to the coronavirus and Pakistan was undergoing a difficult phase. She termed caution as the only cure for coronavirus, and said that the government could not defeat the virus without the help of the people.
Awan said that there was no shortage of food commodities in the country, and the Chief Minister Punjab had allocated Rs10 billion, which would be disbursed among 2.5 million people to buy ration.
