Jang Group chairman and publisher Mir Javed, who is also the brother of Jang Group and Geo TV owner Mir Shakil, passed away at a private hospital here Tuesday.
Mir Javed-ur-Rehman was under treatment at a private hospital battling lung cancer.
Mir Javed had inherited from his father, Mir Khalil-ur-Rahman, the twin qualities of being a fearless journalist and someone who would relentlessly pursue the truth.
President Dr Arif Alvi has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of Jang Group's Chairman and Publisher Mir Javed-ur-Rehman.
In his message, he prayed for the departed soul and commiserated with the bereaved family.
The President said Mir Javed-ur-Rehman played an important role in the promotion of journalism in the country and his services will always be remembered.
"Mir Javed ur Rahman has unparalleled contributions for journalism in Pakistan," the president said.
Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shahbaz Sharif also offered his condolences over the demise of Mir Javed, saying that Mir Javed ur Rahman had the honour of leading a group that had always stood by Pakistan.
"The services of Mir Javed ur Rahman for journalism and for the people of Pakistan cannot be forgotten. The demise of Mir Javed has created a void that can never be filled," Sharif said in his message.-NNI

PBA: In a statement issued here, the Executive Committee and members of Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA) expressed their deep sorrow over the sad demise of Mir Javed-ur-Rahman, Group Chairman and Executive Editor of Jang Media Group and the eldest son of late Mir Khalil-ur-Rahman.
Mir Javed-ur-Rahman's journalistic career stretched over half a century. His contributions for the promotion of journalism in Pakistan will always be appreciated.
"On behalf of all its members, PBA extends its condolences to the bereaved family. May Allah give them the courage to bear this irreparable loss."
APNS: Hameed Haroon, President, Sarmad Ali, Secretary General, All Pakistan Newspapers Society on behalf of the office-bearers and members of the Society have expressed profound grief over the sad demise of Mir Javed-ur-Rahman, Group Chairman, Publisher and Executive Editor of the Jang Media Group.
Mir Javed Rahman's journalistic career stretched over half a century. He had been groomed by his late father the fabled Mir Khalil-ur-Rahman, from whom he got his journalistic vision and foresight.
Mir Javed-ur-Rahman worked tirelessly for the newspaper industry in his capacity as President, Vice President and Secretary General of the APNS.
The APNS office-bearers expressed their condolence and prayed that Almighty Allah may rest the departed soul in peace and give patience to bereaved colleagues and family to bear the irreparable loss.
