The Punjab government has extended the lockdown date till April 14th following rapidly increasing coronavirus threat across the province. According to a notification issued by the home department, Punjab on Monday, Additional Chief Secretary Home Momin Agha said the number of cases of coronavirus pandemic is rapidly increasing in Punjab which is highly dangerous for the public health.
"Hence, it is mandatory to take all pragmatic and possible measures to contain further spread of the virus on war footings," he added.
In my opinion, the chief secretary said there are sufficient grounds to proceed under section-144 of The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1989, for speedy remedy and it is also necessary to ensure public safety, conserve lives and maintain peace in Punjab. Therefore, the validity of earlier notification regarding lockdown is being extended till April 14th by keeping in view public safety, the notification concludes.
