Country passing through difficult situation, says Umar
- Umar says it is need of the hour to find a balance between containing the spread of the disease and ensuring lower-income people don't have to go hungry.
- Mirza says 11 people died of the virus during the last 24 hours taking death tally across the country to 107.
(Karachi) Planning Minister Asad Umar has said that the country is passing through a difficult situation and the government is making efforts to facilitate the poor segments and those with low income.
Addressing a media briefing in Islamabad on Wednesday, Umar said those who were advocating for ensuring that the impoverished people would not lose their income because of the lockdown does not mean they want citizens to die from the virus.
He added those who were in favour of a complete lockdown failed to realize that poor people will die from hunger as a result of restrictions.
He maintained it is need of the hour to find a balance between containing the spread of the disease and ensuring lower-income people don't have to go hungry.
He remarked, "People like me can never understand what a lower-income person goes through."
