The miserable plight of a frontline health worker who tested positive for coronavirus at the MCH Centre of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on Tuesday thoroughly exposed the truth behind the government's claims for the protection of medical professionals engaged in the treatment of the COVID-19 patients.

In a tweet, Special Advisor to PM for Health Dr Zafar Mirza said, "I am just back from PIMS. Dr Sarwat is now admitted to a dedicated private room and I have reviewed the situation and have given instructions to improve the state of affairs. I assure all healthcare workers and their families of government's full support. We care for you and we mean it!"

Dr Sarwat, a fourth-year resident performing duties at the MCH Centre of PIMS, expressed her anguish in a video message over government's poor response to the safety of staff and doctors of the hospital.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 22,550 on Wednesday after new infections were confirmed in the country.

The management bodies of majority of mosques across the federal capital are abiding by the standard operating procedures (SOPs) during the prayer congregations as agreed between the federal government and the ulema to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

During an anecdotal survey, it has been witnessed that the government's directives based on the SOPs by ensuring advised distance among the worshippers, cleaning of mosques and wearing the masks are adopted by majority of main mosques.

On the approval of the federal government, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) offices also resumed in Islamabad to facilitate beneficiaries of Ehsaas Emergency Cash who were facing problems in withdrawing cash due to faulty biometric identification and registration of deaths of eligible family members.

In Lahore on May 4, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Senator Sirajul Haq claimed that even the relief announced by Prime Minister Imran Khan could not reach the labour working in Islamabad, and it was a wrong impression, that the PTI government was creating, regarding distribution of billions of rupees under Ehsaas programme.
