Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PCMAEA) has called for devising a new strategy with innovation to get access to new international markets in a bid to boost exports to fetch much needed forex for the country.
Chairman PCMAEA Muhammad Aslam Tahir said this while speaking at a joint review meeting of the association's circles via video link, here on Sunday. Chairperson Carpet Institute Pervez Hanif, Vice-Chairman Sheikh Aamer Khalid, Senior Central Leader Abdul Latif Malik, Senior Member Riaz Ahmed, Saeed Khan, Ijazur Rehman, Muhammad Akber Malik, Maj Akhter Nazir (retd) and others participated.
The participants discussed the overall situation of the carpet industry and the problems of the skilled workers due to lockdown in the country. Aslam Tahir said the government should sign new balanced trade agreements with different countries and expedite the process of refunds to exporters to bring shortage of investment at minimum level. He demanded the government to give incentive package to exporters and local industry so that they can compete their competitors at international level.
He said the government should appoint a focal person for better engagement between the government and other departments. He said the government should also help the exporters seeking new international markets so that they could compensate the losses incurred due to coronavirus.
