Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar Wednesday appeared before the Sugar Inquiry Commission and recorded his statement regarding subsidy of Rs3 billion given to the sugar mills on sugar export in 2019.
The Sugar Inquiry Commission headed by Director General (DG) FIA Wajid Zia summoned the chief minister Punjab.
The commission probing an increase in sugar prices has widened its scope of investigation by summoning almost all the decision-makers. Buzdar appeared before the commission and skipped the media talk.
The chief minister Punjab presented his stance on the subsidy given for export of sugar.
Buzdar was taken to the FIA headquarters from the rear gate instead of the main gate.
The agency kept the arrival of Buzdar a secret from the media. The commission summoned the chief minister a day after the Federal Minister for Planning, Asad Umar, appeared before it, to explain the decision to export sugar taken by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) headed by him as finance minister in 2018.
