The residents of Kanimazar in Srinagar, Indian-occupied Kashmir, have accused the police of looting cash, jewellery and other valuables from several of their homes.

On Tuesday, security forces conducted an operation that resulted in the killing of two Hizbul Mujahideen militants. The encounter saw several houses razed to the ground and charred by flames. The entire locality was covered in smoke as fire tenders, assisted by local peopletried to douse the flames.

Following the operation, the residents accused that the police looted several homes and also set some on fire. A resident of Kani Mazar said her family had to spent night in a house in the neighbourhood locality after the encounter broke-out, media reported.

She said when they returned, their house was turned into a rubble. "They vandalised our homes...broke our lockers and took everything, how will we survive now?"

Another resident Tariq Ahmad, said the police came like the dacoits of Chambal valley and looted valuables. "Many families had saved money and jewellery for their daughter's marriage, they took that," he said.
