How interesting it is that the Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Shibli Faraz has vehemently denied what he says the "rumours" circulating on social media regarding imposition of governor's rule on the provinces while his own party and allies in Sindh have demanded governor's rule on the province. Describing such reports, as the propaganda of anti-state elements, the federal minister claims that the government is making a concerted effort to address the coronavirus outbreak and other issues, but some "evil elements are trying to divert its attention by spreading such rumours". Addressing a press conference, along with GDA and other PTI leaders, Opposition Leader in the Sindh Assembly Naqvi has reportedly said that "it is better to impose Governor's rule in the province as the Sindh government has failed to deliver" and that the Article 235 of the Constitution empowers the President to impose financial emergency on the country.
What is this? The federal government needs to come clean in this regard. Is it contemplating imposing governor's rule on the province? If not, the party must ask its Sindh MPAs to stop making such demands. It appears that the PTI government is itself behind such "rumours".
Imposition of governor's rule in Sindh or in any other province cannot be a solution to growing economic and social problems in the country because of a variety of reasons. Moreover, the federal government's decision to place the Corona Tiger Force in Sindh under the command of governor Imran Ismail is not the right approach to efforts aimed at lowering Centre-province tensions.
