Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts & Accessories Manufacturers (PAAPAM) has said it wants proper implementation on auto sector related SROs 655 and 656.
The Association which attracted ire of auto assemblers on a letter written to the Engineering Development Board (EDB) is also of the view that PAAPAM has only one core objective that is 'Make in Pakistan' and protect the interest of auto part markers, adding that the letter of PAAPAM chairman is being taken out of context.
In a joint statement, PAAPAM chairman Muhammad Akram and senior vice chairman Saad Shirani said the Association feels that with implementation on SROs in letter and spirit, more localization will occur and government revenues will also increase when proper customs duty is rates are applied.
"In these SROs no change is being demanded. Just proper implementation as per the law," PAAPAM said, adding that the Association also desires to upgrade SRO 993 by removing numerous old components in it (issued in 2004) and update with recent newer components being made in Pakistan already.
With regard to issue of removal of general secretary of the Association, PAAPAM said that the managing committee deemed it necessary to replace with fresh younger staff. A proper resolution was moved by the chairman via circulation (due to Covid-19) and signed by respective MC with majority.
The Association has also formed a consortium of its member companies to undertake ventilators project. The product is being developed locally is on an FDA approved designated and already under manufacturing in the US. When developed it will save countless human lives in Pakistan as well as make ventilator procedures available to off site hospitals example in field locations, rural area health centres, ambulance etc.
