KARACHI: 30-year-old Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh, was diagnosed with a rare germ-cell tumor between his lungs, but is now healing at a good pace and is also expecting to participate in the T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka starting in September.

Talking about the T20 World Cup he said “I know I’m recovering well. The T20 World Cup will be a realistic target, but it is important for me to play cricket before that. The T20 games against New Zealand would be ideal.”

New Zealand will play two T20 matches in India on September 8 and 11 before the World Cup starts in Sri Lanka on September 18.

The all rounder now has a fresh and optimistic outlook on life “I’m more disciplined and more organized. I pray every day and I’ve learnt to be loyal to my body and myself,” he said.

Though he is having a difficult time getting used to playing again, he is motivated to practice for the T20 tournament “I know I’m recovering well. The T20 World Cup will be a realistic target, but it is important for me to play cricket before that. The T20 games against New Zealand would be ideal,” he said.

He also launched a campaign to create awareness against cancer that not only aims to improve early detection of the often-fatal disease but also provides motivation to the victims recovering.

Singh was named Man of the Tournament after India’s World Cup victory last year for his remarkable all-round show of 362 runs and 15 wickets.

But he was diagnosed soon after, and forced to go to the United States for therapy and treatment before being discharged in March of this year.
