KARACHI: Swiss Tennis Prodigy, Roger Federer is back in town just three weeks after defeating British No. 1 Andy Murray, in a nail-biting Wimbledon final. Some would say SW19 has become his second home since winning the Wimbledon title a record seven times.

Though Federer has won a career grand slam, the current World No. 1 has yet to bag a singles gold medal in Olympics.

The 30-year-old Swiss will not only defend his crown of doubles champion after partnering with Stanislas Wawrinka in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, but will also compete for a first singles title.

Not only Federer but his 2012 Wimbledon opponent Andy Murray was also spotted in action, against former World No. 1 Novak Djokovic. The 25-year-old Scot will attempt to wipe away lingering memories of his defeat at Wimbledon’s finale by bagging the Olympic gold.

The Olympic title will not be defended by the reigning Champion Rafael Nadal, as the Spaniard had to drop out following a knee injury earlier this year.

Apart from practice Andy Murray also ran the Olympic Torch around the All England Club.

“It was an amazing feeling to carry it on to the Centre Court and it has really added to my excitement about the Olympics,” he said.

The flame was then handed to five-time Women’s Wimbledon Champion Venus Williams.
