KARACHI: Greece wholeheartedly led the athletes’ parade at the opening ceremony to the London Olympics, having vowed to put their problems aside.
According to media sources, Greeks enduring the removal of two best athletes enter the stadium first in honour of the ancient Olympics and as the hosts of the first modern Games.
Sources added that the two elite athletes, high jump champion Dimitris Chondrokoukis and triple jumper Paraskevi Papachristou was thrown off the team because of using performance-enhancing drugs and for making a racist comment on Twitter respectively.
The now 103-strong team, led out into London's showpiece Olympic stadium by taekwondo hopeful Alexandros Nikolaidis, received a big cheer from the sell-out crowd of 60,000.
