LONDON: Unbeaten United States, on a 37-game Olympic win streak, and France will try to secure top seeds for the women’s basketball medal playoffs with triumphs in Sunday’s final preliminary round games.
The Americans (4-0), who have won the past four Olympic gold medals without dropping a game, face second-place China (3-1), which like the US Women’s NBA stars and Turkey, have already booked their quarter-final berths from Group A.
Croatia and Czech Republic, each 1-3, and winless Angola will decide the only vacant playoff spot. The Czechs, who own the tie-breaker edge entering the last games, face Angola while the Croatians play Turkey.
France, Australia, Russia and Canada have clinched quarter-final berths from Group B, but final seedings remain up for grabs with France (4-0) facing Russia (3-1) and Canada (2-2) meeting Australia (3-1).
Winless Britain and Brazil meet but neither can advance.
