pcb2 400KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has asked former wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider to prove his allegations against wicketkeeper and batsman Kamran Akmal and other unnamed players by August 31.

A PCB spokesman said Friday that the board has taken serious notice of the latest outburst by Haider on social media and media interviews. He said that the board intends to take disciplinary action if he fails to present evidence of his claims by August 31.

“We have taken serious notice of his latest allegations because when he was pardoned by us he had assured us he would be on his best behaviour. We have sent him a letter asking him to provide our anti-corruption officers the evidence or details he has to back up the allegations he has made against other players.”

In his recent outburst, Haider has questioned the selection of Akmal in the national team for the Twenty20 World Cup and the upcoming Pakistan and Australia series.

He claimed that Akmal has not been issued clearance by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and also that PCB has selected him despite doubts over his behaviour.

Haider has threatened to reveal more startling facts if Akmal does not produce his ICC clearance certificate.

"He has to now substantiate his allegations because his statements are damaging for Pakistan cricket and the other players and this can’t carry on. We will wait and see what he has to say or comes up with on the 31st," the PCB official concluded.
